Every fall, all across the country, dedicated birders gather to count the number of birds of prey moving south for the the season. They are an impressive site — from the largest Bald Eagles to the tiny American Kestrel. In between are an array of Falcons, Kites, Osprey and Hawks, all with an air of royalty that comes with being at the top of the heap. They make for some of the best photos, because of their size and elegance and because of their lumbering pace. Here are a selection from the past year:
